'Respray' and 'touch-up' get used interchangeably, but they're very different jobs with very different results. Knowing which you actually need saves money and avoids a repair that looks worse than the damage.
When a touch-up is enough
For a tiny stone chip or a fine scratch that hasn't gone through to the metal, a careful touch-in can seal it and make it far less noticeable. It's quick and cheap — but it rarely disappears completely, and DIY kits often leave a visible blob.
When you need a proper refinish
Once damage covers more than a coin-sized area, has gone through the lacquer, or sits somewhere obvious like a door or bumper, the tidy answer is to refinish the whole panel and blend it in. That means colour-matching to your car and baking the finish so it lasts — no patch, no mismatch.
