Why salt is the enemy

Grit and salt keep us moving but they're corrosive, and coastal air adds to it. Salt works into chips and arches and speeds up rust.

Wash more, not less

Regular washing through winter rinses off the salt before it does damage — pay attention to the lower panels and wheel arches.

Sort chips before winter

Any chip that's exposed bare metal is an open door for salt. Sealing them in autumn is cheap insurance against a rust repair in spring.
