Solid, Metallic and Pearlescent Paint Explained

Not all car paint is the same, and the type yours uses affects how a repair is done and what it costs.

Solid

A single flat colour with no sparkle — the easiest to match and repair, usually the most affordable to work with.

Metallic

Fine metal flakes give sparkle and depth that shifts with the light. Matching takes more skill, because the flake has to lie and reflect like the original.

Pearlescent

Ceramic crystals make the colour appear to shift with the angle. Stunning, but the most demanding to match — a job for an experienced sprayer.
