The short answer
As a broad guide, a quality full respray in the UK typically starts around £1,500 for a small car in sound condition and rises to £5,000 or more for a large vehicle, a demanding finish, or a colour change. Cheaper prices usually mean a quick blow-over with minimal preparation that won't last. Treat any online figure, including ours, as a starting point — the only way to know your price is to have the car looked at.
Why there's no fixed price
A respray isn't an off-the-shelf product; it's labour-intensive work that scales with the vehicle. Two cars of the same model can cost very different amounts depending on condition, colour and finish. A shop that quotes a firm price without seeing the car is either padding the figure or planning to cut corners.
What moves the price
Size and condition
More panels mean more prep, paint and labour. And paint is only as good as what's beneath it — rust, dents and previous poor repairs all add time. Preparation is where most of the hours go.
Colour and finish
A straight solid colour is simpler than a metallic or pearl. A colour change costs more again, because door shuts, the boot and bonnet edges all need painting so the old colour never shows.
Standard of finish
A cheap single-coat blow-over and a proper strip-prep-bake respray are worlds apart in both price and longevity. We only do the latter, because anything less is a false economy.
